Every Once in Awhile

Every now and then I have a fleeting thought
Of someone somewhere sometime somehow
Of doing as I wished in place of how I ought
When I spurned the cautious whispers to my heart
Warning me of dangers that could cause me pain
From the consequence of dear Cupid's dart
Impudence guised as confidence that I knew best
With the aftermath that disturbed my soul
That robbed me of my peaceful rest
As time rolled forward as it's inclined to do
Learning from mistakes is so crucial
Harks to the phrase to thine own self be true
In time a tender heart can be taught an important lesson
To be more discerning in the way of the world
Can be the most comforting blessing
Striding out in a way that can protect & mend
To remain at peace in this good life I'm living
What is meant to be will find a way in the end

Somewhere

If you have ever watched or never watched the movie, Somewhere in Time, you might know or will know the magic of it all.

Remembering the very first time I saw this movie, it was a bit surprising to me that my date & me were the only 2 people in theater. It was a re-released movie from several years back.  My date was a cool guy, newly divorced. I was still hurting from a deeply painful breakup. It was Valentine's Day. Let's go!

Hey! Let's go to a gooshie romantic chik flik! Riiiight? Sure.

Both of us knew where the others head & heart was. It was just 2 people going to a movie as friends. He wouldn't let me pay for my own ticket so, I smuggled his favorite candy in, in my purse & bought a couple bottles of water for us. The movie was hyper criticized by the reviewers if it got any attention at all. My date loved it & so did I! He and I remained friends after that.

After that, when we spoke from time to time, he would ask me about the movie, about how it garnered more attention in the years after it was no longer in theaters.

It was filmed on Mackinac Island. Pronounced nothing like it looks! I had to pronounce it for a few people more than 3 times.
It's from Michigan, like me, though I got to Texas as quick as I could.
Mack-in-awe Eye-land
The island itself is a very beautiful, very unique place. It's just off the tip, to the left, of the Michigan mitten. The straits of Sault Ste. Marie are close by.
There is a bridge to it & a small airport on the island. Most people take the Mackinaw ferry to the island for a small fee. The ferry is docked in Mackinaw city, departs regularly. It's also known as Sheplers Ferry.
Why is there a ferry?
No cars are allowed on the island. There is just one, antique car that is still in beautiful condition, runs perfectly, that is used for special occasions such as weddings, funerals, etc. Other than that people can walk, rent bicycles, rent horses, rent horse drawn carriages. For a fee, of course. It can be pricey, yet there are very few places where you can have a similar experience. It's worth it! $$$$

There are also B&B's restaurants, touristy places, picnic spots by the shores of Lake Huron.
A long time ago it was a military fort & some of the cannons used to defend the island are still there.
The last time I went to Mackinac Island, I went with my sister (who lives only a 20-minute car drive from the bridge & ferry dock). I had my eldest & youngest daughters with me. My sister had her daughter with her.

I had brought my son & 1of my daughters with me on the drive from Colorado, picked the other daughter up at the airport a couple days after. One daughter was living in Florida, couldn't make it, we all missed her when we had so many great experiences with my side of the family. My brother-in-law thrilled my son with photos and talking about how good the fishing in that area was.
My son did NOT want to spend a day sightseeing when he could go fishing with his uncle! In fairness to my son, he is, always has been a masculine guy & I indulged that when I could.
Often, I let him sit in the front seat of the car with me, to keep him from fighting with his 3 sisters. Rough life to be the only boy.  He & his uncle caught at least 20 - 18" walleye's which my sister served for dinner that evening when we got back.
My son was so happy!!!!
I was happy, too, for him to witness firsthand that the upper peninsula of Michigan is TRULY a sportsmen's paradise!

So, we set out for Mackinaw City, spent the night at a hotel then caught the ferry the next morning. There was a dispute several years ago, regarding the names of the city and the island. Hence, the different spellings. It was such fun to see my girls spending time with my niece & my sister. Those times were rare.
The whole day was a lot of fun. There was even a bit of excitement when a rascally teenage boy was dared by his brother to pull the rope & ring the bell on the very old church.
That bell was meant to only be rang in emergencies. The pastor was quite unhappy with the 2 teenage boys who ran at top speed, away!

The movie, Somewhere in Time, was filmed at The Grand Hotel which was built in 1887 in the style of luxurious European hotels of that era. It truly is a beautiful & magnificent sight to see.
During the summer there are large AMERICAN flags up and down the front porch along with bright red geraniums.

My sister saw that I was a bit stressed out, dealing with teenage attitudes all day. She distracted them so I could slip away to treat myself to a small snack in the Grand Hotel.
It was nice, very quiet, the food was delicious.
Then, they found me.

You might be curious about the movie, Somewhere in Time, right about now.

It's a love story, based on a novel, written in 1975 by Richard Matheson, Bid Time Return. It was directed by Jeannot Szwarc. It starred Christopher Reeve, Jane Seymour, Christopher Plummer.
It combines the elements of science fiction, romance, beautiful locations plus just enough of an adversarial element to give it a bit of spice!
The time periods when it was to have taken place in the opening of the movie was May 1972. Then, switched to June 1912. If you watch the movie, it might make more sense.

The movie was originally a box office flop that picked up such a huge audience that it was re-shown in theaters off and on all over the world, many times over.
Also?
There is a web site that has the schedule for a Somewhere in Time multiple day event, every October. Before his death, Chris Reeve attended some of those events along with Jane Seymour.
Right after the main tourist season ends & before the deep freeze of Michigan winter takes hold.
The attendees stay in the Grand Hotel, dress in the fashions of 1912, attending events that are recreated in the trends of 1912. I have some clothing from that time period, yes, it fits me!
Someday, I hope to go to one of those events.
The group has a website, have aptly named their group.
INSITE ~ International Somewhere In Time Enthusiasts.

There is a beautiful music box that plays the theme song for the movie. It's shown briefly, used as a prop in the movie. It was expertly hand crafted, modeled to look just like the front entrance of The Grand Hotel. When I experienced a stroke of prosperity, I bought it!

This clip shows the music box, also, the white Edwardian tea gown on the dress form in the back corner of the room that was Elise's.
(You might have to copy & paste the link below. My apologies.)

For many years, I watched the movie over and over, feeding my soul, my hopelessly romantic soul that was hungry for romance. Then, I started to only allow myself to watch it on Valentine's Day. A few times I even watched it twice, okay, three times only on Valentine's Day!
Romance can involve just one person, treating themselves to flowers, candlelight, sumptuous food & a romantic movie. It can also involve more than one person. Like a Lady Hawk, often, I like to fly solo.

Artfully Living a Fulfilling Life

I sit in a sunlit window seat
While stitching pretty silk seams
Though solemn I am complete
Creating beauty in soft daydreams
Babies faces appear before me
Sweet ones whom I have not given birth
Looking up from my hoop they adore me
Children I have brought to earth
As the sun dies in blood red maroon
So, his lady has her time to shine
Stars encircle his lady moon
Celestial love in grand design
In timeless rhythm the moon and stars
Yield to the sun the next day
This is their story 'tis also ours
Rhythm of life is nature's way
In pleasure I take up my silken thread
So pleasing in texture in hue
Dreams that were once in my head
I have made them all come true

I have been blessed with so many tender mercies, I say thank you.

What the pho!

Many people who have never lived in Texas, mistakenly believe that the temps are as hot as H-E- double hockey sticks all year around. Some parts, yes, with the occasional freaky snowstorm.
The small town where I live is in north Texas. Drive 257 miles, veer left, you'll be in Oklahoma. Veer right, you'll be in Arkansas. That should give a functional idea of the geography. The freak storm in Feb 2021 where most of Texas was without, I'd say, a lot! It lasted for anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks.
People were sliding off the roads, totaling cars, pipes were bursting & children were making snow sculptures as far down as San Antonio. Many businesses that were still opened after the whole COVID debacle, took a serious hit. It was a BOHICA that kept giving!

To summarize, YES! It sometimes does get bone chilling cold in some parts of Texas.
Icy cold or stupid hot, it's still Texas, which is a great place to live, just ask any Texan who was born here, lived here most of their life.
I'm a transplant, lived in Michigan until I left my parents' home to go to BMT at Lackland AFB then head to Hickam AFB, Honolulu, HI!
Rough life.
There are only 3 places in Hawai'i where it snows. Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, Haleakala. 10,000 - 14,000 feet above sea level. I did go to Haleakala, once. Froze my okole, didn't even get out of the car!

In a prior blog entry, I sang the praises of my Carrot Ginger Bisque. It really is a taste sensation. Loving variety as I do, it's good to change it up, rock out, shake the tree!
When it's so cold outside, this recipe will warm you up!
Another of my favorites is Pho, a Thai rice noodle & meat .....umm...soup, I guess?
There are some great dining options in the town where I live. None of them serve Pho. (pronounced as Fuh, no k, that's a different delicacy altogether!).
What the pho?
Oh, if I wanted to drive 2 hours for good Pho, I could. Dude, I wouldn't even walk a mile for a Klondike!
I consider myself an excellent cook!
Calm & collected on the street, steamin' hot in the kitchen! When the craving for Pho set in, it was time to get busy making my own.
I found this how to on the happiest place on the net, YouTube!

https://youtu.be/Olufot9Cv3A

(You might have to copy & paste.)

When the temps drop, I make a big batch of this Pho broth, freeze it in small portions. Just the broth, by itself.  The recipe is easy, it does take time to make it. The reward is so dee-lish! Pho sho!

If making the broth is too time consuming for you, you can buy the broth. It's sold at most Walmart's along with the Thai rice noodles.

When I make Pho for one (I won't share mine with anyone!)
this is what I do.

I cook the rice noodles, boil for 5 minutes, drain then spoon them into a large bowl.

I snip cilantro or fresh basil on top of noodles in the bowl.

If the broth is thawed or you're using the store-bought kind, I put 2 cups of broth in a small pan.

I love the thinly sliced boneless ribeye beef. I pull out 3 slices, cut into smaller pieces, put it into the broth. Turn up the heat to high, let it boil until the beef is cooked. Pour the beef & Pho broth onto the noodles & cilantro or what you have.
Creating this blog content made me hungry, here's my pho!
(The bowl is a true British classic. Portmierion in the Botanic Garden series.)

That's it! I calculated that, when you make it at home it costs roughly $2.50 per bowl! Amazeballs.

Caveat: If you like this, I'll warn you, it can be addicting. You might need more than one Pho fix per day. It's legal crack.

Singing

The earth is singing a song tonight
In tones of alto & bass
Pausing to listen by the moonlight
Clothed only in midnight lace
Earthsong is so underrated
Few will ever stop to listen
Rushing through life unsated
Vying for wealth and position
Having stuff is so overrated
Here am I so transfixed
On a beautiful sonata for my ears
Feeling as though bewitched
By natures song for the years

Play With It

There are just four practices which I know like I know that I am very good at. Four practices in which I can rightfully claim to be an expert in using with such skill that others marvel at my talent.

The first skill is in inventing recipes to please all palates.
The second skill is with languages, I speak 5 fluently, can read a 6th,
The third is couture seamstressing, intricate embroidery.
The fourth is one I will leave to your oh so keen imagination.

When the memo was floating around to not play with your food, I got a different memo. "Play with your food!"

At one time I had founded, ran plus was very successful at my own catering service. I fuh-reek-ing loved it. It was akin to getting paid a lot to party while raking the chedda' in as I also helped others.
Golden.
Okay, platinum!

It was very gratifying when I combined flavors that are less commonly used together, that people went nuts over it! Even people with very discerning palates couldn't figure out what all the flavors were. All they knew was that was so delicious that they craved more of whatever it was.
I served mashed potatoes with a twist in different variations.

Below is a short list of variations, though they have more ingredients than is mentioned in the name of each one. It remains a secret!

*Ginger cream mashed potatoes were scrumptious with coq au vin or beef bourginion.
*Sesame garlic potatoes were a great complement to any chicken.
*Sun dried tomato & fresh basil mashed potatoes were a hit with any dish with a tomato sauce.
*Smoothed yam or sweet potato with ginger & macadamia nuts.
(Even people who were not fond of yams loved this!)

When I sold my catering service the buyer wanted my recipe book with all of the recipes I used in catering. Most of the recipes were my own private creations.
I was giving myself a mental pat on the back that I had made it clear in the sales contract that my recipe book was not included. The recipe book was, however, available for an additional cost that could be negotiated between buyer (them) & seller (me). The buyer was a businessman from Japan. I had tutored his daughter to improve her English language pronunciation. That's how I met him.
I don't speak Japanese. The buyer was a bit unhappy that the recipe book was not included. He spoke English very well. Whatever he was saying to his associate in Japanese didn't sound like it was very nice.
Sorry, not sorry.

As the temps drop, even in north Texas, I make this recipe that I invented, for myself. It's delicious, nutritious, very surprisingly filling, has been loved by every person who has ever tasted it. Even dogs & cats love it. Possibly because of its delectable aroma.

My Carrot & Ginger Root Bisque is so divine many people crave it.

You might ask what the difference is between soup vs bisque.

Soup is most often water based. Usually based on chicken, vegetable beef or seafood broth. The mainstay of a soup is the ingredients added to it to make it filling while relying on the backdrop of the base plus a scant bit of salt to make it savory.

Bisque is of French origin. It has a cream base or creamy consistency which sets it apart from its cousin, soup.

The delectable creamy-ness of my carrot ginger bisque is created by a base of cooked & pureed ginger root with (about 3 lbs of carrots) carrots with around 3/4" of ginger root. I tend to go with 1" or 1.5" of ginger root when I make this for myself. Living dangerously is how I roll. I love the bite that the ginger adds. Ginger root, similar to the bite of pineapple is a food you can eat that eats you right back!
Heh heh.

When my carrot-ginger bisque became an often-chosen item for a catered party, I chose to ramp it up a wee bit.
SCORE!
The bisque is appealing in its presentation. I added a bit via an offering of a snipped herb of choice. This was very well received, however, different people preferred different flavors.
Challenge accepted!
Investing in 100 ramekins, a choice of 4 herbs served a la table. The four herbs that really worked were.

1. Cilantro
2. Parsley
3. Basil
4. Dillweed

Every person liked at least one of these, often 2 or three. I love to please with my culinary skill especially if it's my own recipe. The offering of snipped herbs made the bisque even more popular!
It brought me to offer something more.

A sprinkle of nutritional yeast not only heightened the flavors, it also added another element of nutrient.
B-12.
I loved to carry my pretty silver, antique shaker of nutritional yeast, around, socializing slightly with the guests.
At the tables that requested a sprinkle of nutritional yeast after the bisque had been ladled into each individual bowl, it also provided a beautiful contrast of light yellow (nutritional yeast) to the healthy orange glow of the bisque.
It was just pretty!

Adding to the beauty of the bisque, consuming it regularly is excellent for the skin. It gives a soft facial glow to the people who eat carrots quite often.
It's also known as Rabbit Syndrome.
(just playing!)
When I was working on the carrot ginger bisque recipe, I developed an orange cast to my skin. It was slightly embarrassing to walk around with an orange face!
(It only had to happen to me once to learn the lesson).

As the weather becomes colder, I turn to my carrot ginger bisque as a staple. Just not enough to turn my face orange!

Aquatic Flavor

Although I mostly avoid thinking about the long ago, too long, amount of time I lived in Colorado...

Colorado is a good place to live, according to a lot of people, my preference is for other places to make a home for me, myself and I. While its an okay place to live, it definitely was not my place to live.
When 1 out of twenty experiences is positive with the other 19 being pain filled, bordering on nightmarish, its a safe bet that living in Colorado can be good for some people. Less so for me. In the spirit of remaining positive, here are some of the best aspects of living in Colorado. Having lived all over the world, I realized that water that is from each area of the world has different properties, slight variations in flavor.
There are the 8 captured free flowing fountains in Manitou Springs that have been bubbling up from the earth for over 10,000 years.
Colorado tap water is the best I have ever tasted! It has a very earthy flavor. Its slightly sweet.
In Steamboat Springs, Sterling & Rifle the water has a very slight birchy scent with an even less perceptible birchy flavor, to me. You know, as I am the drinking, skinny dipping water connoisseur.
#militarylife #yaymilitarylife

As a child, living in Michigan, there was little else to drink besides water. Dad had his beer & whiskey. Mom had her Pepsi which she occasionally shared. Mom & Dad had their substance addiction to coffee. As most people in the world, do.
Other than that it was water most of the time.  As a child, as I still am, one who hates to drink milk. Most of the drinking water that was available came out of the garden hose.
Turn it on, wait a minute or so for the water to flush the dirt & critters out. If it was a very warm late spring or early summer day, it was necessary to let the water run until it came out of the hose, ice cold coming up from underground. Yum.
The tap water in Hawai'i had a heavily fluoridated taste, I could even smell the fluoride. I became a bit concerned about it when I brought my first & second precious daughters into the world. Born in paradise, it was a wonderful start in life. Still, I went full on Tigress when it concerned my babies, the water I drank or used to bathe them.

Moving from Hawai'i to Nebraska (Offutt AFB, Omaha, NE), the Nebraska tap water tasted like mud & mold to me. Even after it went through a filter, the traces of the flavor was still there.

As a military family, we moved to Europe from Nebraska. Some parts of Europe had never recovered from the damage done in WWII. The water that was served in public was never out of the tap. It was always bottled water. Often it was fizzy mineral water from a bottle.
The equivalent of $2. per bottle. $.50 extra if ice was ordered with it.
At first, it was a bit tricky, figuring out what the price would be in USD to decide if a cost was worth it in DM or FF or BF. Traveling from one European country to another was like crossing from Colorado into Wyoming or Georgia into Florida except the language of signs changed. Many aspects of the culture changed. Germany was free of roadside litter. When crossing into France, there was a bit more road litter, yet, each country had its' own charming aspects.

When I lived in Germany, I did half of my grocery shopping in France. My 4 darlings were age 1 year of age to 9 years, in a Dodge Caravan going 130 kph (80 mph) on the autobahn.
With the average exchange rate at FF 5.65 to USD $1.00,  I could buy $500. worth of groceries for USD $100. to feed our family of 6 people. My darlings were promised French eclairs until the eclairs were gone on the trip home as a reward for their patience on the drive to the shopping area in France. As we neared the area of the shopping Usually a 45 minute drive. We knew we were close to the exit we needed to take when we saw this.

Many Americans thought this indicated a town named Ausfahrt, a very LARGE town because the sign is a constant on the autobahn. It's actually the German word for "Exit".
Then, when we saw this sign, we knew we were 10 minutes away from CORA, one in a chain of large one stop shopping areas.

Not the bicyclist, the sign. The signs are posted to mark the border of the different European countries. Their version of :

I had lived in Texas during my USAF BMT & schools. It was a very eye opening time. My first time to actually live outside my parents home, to progress into new adulthood
My first taste of actual Texas water on Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas tasted a lot like FREEDOM!

So much was new, fun, a bit scary at times. I paid very scant attention to the flavor of the water.
When I moved to Texas in 2012, I moved to a very small almost rural area. Yupp, ha ha.
Small Town USA. Pop: 800. It seemed to me that it must include horses, cows & 4 chihuahuas per family or 1 pit bull or cattle dog.
There couldn't possibly have been 800 people walking around.
It seemed that the water filtration was an ongoing issue in the small town where I lived. I knew to let the water from the tap sit in a clear glass for a bit. If brown sediment or white flakes or both were visible I knew I had to do something. I bought a water filtration system as well as a 3 gallon Brita water filter container for the fridge.
I drink a lot of water every day, a good habit. When I was able to taste the higher quality water flavor from a Brita dispenser even better than the more pricey bottled water for sale, I knew I had the best drinking water possible.

Does water quality truly matter so much?

YES!

Availability of clean water for washing clothing, bathing, growing crops, cooking is a bare essential. Also, providing clean healthy water for livestock is crucial to the health & prosperity for the population of people everywhere.
The progressiveness along with prosperity of countries worldwide directly correlates to the availability of clean water free from debris, chemicals, whether natural or otherwise.
Every morning, after washing my face & brushing my teeth, I take a container of 16 oz water then, chug it down. For my own personal reasons I have never had to depend on the chemical substance in coffee to help me wake up.
My morning water feels so clean, so fresh as I feel the infusion of ice cold freshness brings my senses to a tingle.
The best part of waking up is water in my....

Giving, Receiving, it's mostly the same

I can create beauty wherever I go
For myself for loved ones
For those I do not know
So I shall

I can lift spirits or wipe a tear
Of those who might need it
Whether they be far or near
Because I want to

The milk of human kindness
Is in short supply I fear
With selfishness comes blindness
It's my mission to see

Though there is less joy
In the holidays for me now
My heart can still employ
To give to others

It's said often it's ever better to give
So this I shall do for myself
Sometimes a girl has to live
Making my own happiness. Merry whatever to me.  💖

Sweet Single Life ~ USA

In this space where my body lives
With the sheltering peace it gives
A place of excitement though not a home
For a space allowing my mind to roam
Walls around me with a sturdy roof above
As I toil in the work I can't get enough of
So fortunate am I to enjoy the work I do
With passionate energy all the way through
It was quite unplanned in the way it came to be
Call it happenstance of serendipity
It's the love of my life in the karma coming back to me
In my element for setting my mind so free
God given talent so loved is this deep passion
Appreciating this gift of the tongue after a fashion
Gift of mercy when it was given to do what I love
Endowing me with a life I had long dreamed of
Lucre is said to be so far from happiness
It will give to me a place where I can build my nest
Many hours in solitude crafting works of oral perfection
Taking me ever forward in the right direction
As the days melt into weeks into months with years to pass
Cows teach us that in time cream can be made from grass

A Prayer For The Soul From The Soul

 Please

If you can

If you will

Try to understand that this is a beautiful word for a beautiful practice for the heart, for the mind, for the soul. For all of us who have broken the hearts of others or had your heart broken.
For those of us who are perfect in our imperfection.

I said, please.

Ho'o'ponopono is a long word for a simple practice. The sadness trapped inside you whether you put it there or it was put there by others can be touched. Possibly a simple by product of life.
It can be spoken to, then, released.

You can release it, finally, by giving yourself permission.
WTF?
Do I actually NEED permission?
Sometimes......well......you might not know

For peace of mind, peace of heart, maybe. You will only know when you try. You are a beautiful work of spirit & flesh, be thelemic.

An Easier Life

Life has been challenging at the least in the past 2 years. There is a song that could apply to the chaotic mess the world was thrown into in late 2019. Hmm. Lockdown for COVID19 began in 2019.
Hmm.
Coincidence or manipulated serendipity?
Hmm.

Back to the song by Rodney Atkins, it's his property, I could have written it, Rodney wrote it. This is the chorus.

"If you're goin' through hell, keep on going
Don't slow down if you're scared don't show it
You might get out before the devil even knows you're there"

It makes me wonder, though the song came out in 2015, if he had to deal with the TP shortage, because, he's a celebrity.

As one who self describes as a creative thinker, there are many things that I think of, put the idea to the test. If it gives good results, it's a keeper. If it's unsuccessful, oh well, I tried. These life hacks make my life more pleasant. Others might know about them, already.
Now to the meat of the topic.
(Mmm, meat, good!)

1. If you have ever "lost" your vehicle in a parking lot, you might activate the alarm on a key fob, then, follow the music. 😎
If you are fobless or prefer to wander the parking lot, hoping that your vehicle will magically appear, good luck. Most large parking lots have a firetruck lane. A long red line, often, it will be yellow.
I park up against the red line. NOT IN FIRE LANE. Against it.
When you exit the store, follow the red or yellow line to your vehicle.
It will look something like this.

2. Battery operated devices are nice to have in a power outage or if you are somewhere, outside of a building, where there is no electricity. Maybe you have been binge watching your favorite shows, a lot!
You trundle on down to the store, park against the red line of course, to re-stock your batteries.
Do you need AA size batteries or AAA? Flip a coin. AAA it is! You go home, get ready to change the batteries on your device. Whatever you may be thinking while reading this. Just to be clear, I'm talking about remote controls for lights, TV, DVD Player.
Leave BOB out of this!  😇😇😇😇
(My cheeky side surfaced)
It's then that you discover you actually needed size AA.
If you have aluminum foil (hope you do), tear off a small piece. Put your batteries in their proper order, the batteries are too small.
What the french, toast?
Crumple a bit of the aluminum foil, push it into the gap between the battery, on + or - side so the battery is in contact with the foil.
Pop the popcorn, fire up the boob tube, continue binge watching!

3. This next one involves bugs, insects, whatever, a double header!
Most stinging, biting insects are repelled by lavender oil. It's a common oil that is widely available, inexpensive. The quality is less important. If you can smell the scent of lavender, the bugs can, too! When I need to step outside, either close to or after sundown, I have a 10 ml bottle with a roller ball. It only takes a little. One dot of it on each wrist, then, one dot on each ankle.
4 dots at night, the buggies won't bite.
I keep one bottle in my purse, one in my home.
Peppermint oil works, also, if you prefer that.
So, you're out of lavender oil, peppermint oil or never had it to begin with.
tsk - tsk
Do you have a metal spoon?
A bunch of biter - stingers decided you would be a great snack! The itching is horrible, making you irritable. If you have a metal spoon, heat it with hot water. Test it for temperature. Lightly press the back or convex side of the spoon on the bite. It will disperse the venom which will alleviate itching.
You can also run a bath of water as hot as you can stand it. Lay in the tub of hot water for 5 - 10 minutes. The heat of the water has the same effect. For an enhancement to the experience, put some soft music on, fantasize about whoever or whatever tickles your fancy.

4. If you have children or are going to spend time with one (or more), cooking or baking is a great way to have fun while spending time with children. It can be tricky, messy. It's best to keep it simple.
Make certain that the child or children don't have allergies to ingredients before you cook or bake with them. It's important to make happy memories without injuring or killing cookie crunchers!
It's best to keep it as simple as possible, to hold the child's interest plus makes clean up easier as you will most likely be doing it solo.
This is a simple recipe that seems like it won't work, but it does.

Not this! Unless you really want to. Report back if it works!

This!

1 cup of sugar
1 cup of peanut butter (or any nut butter)
1 egg

Heat the oven to 375, coat a cookie sheet with shortening or butter.

Use a tablespoon of the dough, rolled into spheres. Place the spheres on the cookie sheet, flatten ever so slightly with a dinner fork, bake for 8 - 10 minutes. Remove from oven, using an oven mit, it will be HOT!
Let the cookies cool for 10 - 15 minutes as they will be similar consistency to softened butter. They become firm when cooled.

If you or the little one has nut allergies, here is an alternate recipe.

2 - 4 cups white or wheat flour
2 sticks or 1 cup of butter
1 cup table or white granulated sugar
Heat oven to 375 c

Start with 1 stick (1/2 cup) of butter, 1/2 cup of sugar. With a stand or hand mixer, beat the butter & sugar together until it's creamy. Add the flour a tablespoon at a time, using the mixer until the dough becomes thick enough to be made into a firm ball or rolled flat then cut into shapes. If you only want a small batch such as 1 or 2 dozen cookies, stop adding flour, butter or sugar. If the dough is too thick, a few drops of warm water will soften it. Sprinkle some flour on a cutting board, roll the dough flat, use cookie cutters or your imagination for different shapes. Bake on a buttered cookie sheet for 8 - 10 minutes. Let them cool for at least 10 minutes as they will be fragile until cooled.
