Life is Good!

I realized I had to give up being a wife
With the one I used to imagine
He who would be the love of my life
Realizing this is that which sets my soul so free
Creating a sweet world of my very own making
As the very happiest version of myself I can be
Going to bed only when I feel it's time for sleep
Rising early or sleeping all day if it's what I wish
Spending more time smiling with less time to weep
Where I go and with whom for as long as I may
My days as they take me where they will
Back home at the time of night or the next day
Life has so much more meaning when I do all I can
To spread happiness to those who need it the most
Sans constraints placed on me by beast nor man
The path my life has taken was one so unforeseen
Most people pity more than they understand
Like a Lady Hawke I fly solo kindhearted serene

With Love From a Sage

My grandfather told me to never wear my heart on my sleeve
That people will see it as their opportunities to use me
Then leave me in the aftermath to heal my heart as I grieve
As long as I show less to others there isn't much to see
My grandfather told me to only ever speak words of truth
To speak wisely speak kindly while watching and observing
How I wish I had perfected it when I was in single digit youth
A practice that all people know is such good dignity preserving
Though I learned such lessons much later on than most people do
It's better to have learned these things later than not learn them at all
A trauma filled childhood kept me guessing what was false or true
His loving lessons still catch me before I might trip then fall
They comfort me when nursing a wounded or shattered heart
People of the world can be so deceptive it hinders a judgment call
With lies upon lies that that can tear a person's very soul apart
Grandpa said to believe nothing people say & half of what they do
To be safer from predatory people looking for others as prey
These cautions he lovingly spoke to me have always rung so true
As I employ his kindly lessons while living them each & every day
In retort to the often-said God bless you after he had a sneeze
"And may the devil take you" with a smile and a glint in his eye
He told me that to be a happy person you must do as you please
You can't please all people, nor should anyone deign to try
It's important to know your mind likewise to know your worth
Love those who love you who show it when they prioritize you
A concept so simple so ignored by so many who walk this earth
Let go of those in your life who once did yet they no longer do
Neither loan nor borrow that which you wish to have back
Give it with no thought of it being returned unscathed to you
Peace of mind is so very precious to keep relationships intact
Resentment is easier to harbor than forgiveness is ever to do
So I raise a glass of chilled Vernors which was his favorite drink
He claimed that it could chase away troubles though he had so few
A rich legacy in many he taught by his example to wisely think

I Feel Your Paint

Art is often viewed as a luxury. It's also often seen as reserved for those people who are wealthy, having more lucre than they need or know what to do with it. This mindset is the often-shared point of view by people or even groupings of people who work so hard to get ahead.
Sadly, they feel they are working so hard, spinning their wheels, looking out as if living in a fishbowl. As they are watching other people who seem to acquire all that they need, want, ever dreamed of having, it's a mystery to some.

It's akin to the people who struggle with obesity. They might have been born into a family that struggles with health problems which are brought on by obesity with no clue as to break the cycle.
I have heard the lament!
I have even been the lamenter.
From doing independent research on the one aspect, I know more about than anyone. My own body, what I consume as well as what consumes my time here on earth. Research that taught me that my genetics can be used to my advantage.
Everyone's skeletons in their closets can be made to dance.

Shortly after leaving my parents' home, I felt my mindset beginning to shift. It did help my mindset shift that I was far from any family members, in a totally different environment. The environment did help. From a small town in Michigan to Honolulu, Hawai'i.
It helped a little, well, maybe it helped a lot!
I realize that going to or living in Hawai'i was a magical place for me, though other people's magical place may be a different locale.
It worked for me.
It was where I got to know myself.
My magical place was also where I met someone who helped me to further change my mindset with a handful of deep conversations. He was a somewhat powerful, wise, humble, very kind man.

Something he said has stuck with me, ever since then. I remain deeply grateful to him; I learned the power of humility from him.

There were so many lessons he taught me. These were only two of the many lessons that benefitted me, the most.
Wait, that was only one, what was the other?
I shared details with him that I had never shared with any other person up to that point in my life.

The great second lesson:
He told me that many people are born into the right family for all the wrong reasons.
He told me that many people are also born into the wrong family for all the right reasons.
He told me that most people are born into a family which is a benevolent fit for what their purpose in life is yet to be.

Lucky ducks!
Maybe so, maybe less true.
I love my siblings!
They, themselves, have done many wonderful things with their lives. Some of what they have accomplished with the gifts they naturally had at birth, some of the traits they have developed, are still developing with their young lives. Some of the achievement in their lives was from skills that they worked very hard to cultivate.
Having always felt that I was very different, I set out into the world, on my own, at the earliest age as the third child of six children. I moved out, stayed out, made it on my own.
For better, for worse, I stayed out, on my own. It has made a difference.
Sometimes there were difficult, pain filled times, sometimes there were easier, more joyful times. A respite from the process of being forged by the fire that is life. Time & life that forges us all. That sometimes gives us trial by fire, cooled by the wind, the water that strengthens people who go back, of their own will, into the fire.

As a child, I always felt that I was very different from my siblings, also, from nearly every person I knew. I began writing poetry as soon as I learned to write, at the age of four years. Then, I began writing short stories. The notebooks I had written in are still with me, now. Often, I would send my musings to magazines & newspapers. Sometimes, they were even accepted, then published.
This created quite a stir.
Even more of a stir when my age was revealed.

People who influenced me in their benevolence, showed me that my desires were within reach. The finer things in life were in my reach.
All that was needed was to reach, keep reaching.

My Aunt Helen was the first of these influences. As a child, I thought she looked like Elizabeth Taylor. She was very kind. When my mother would take my siblings & I to visit her, my uncle plus their 2 sweet little girls, it was a huge treat!
Aunt Helen had a way of creating beauty. Even when it was just cookies on a plate, she would arrange them so nice, then put little flowers with them. It was almost too pretty to eat. I didn't get cookies very often, as a child, I ate the cookies!

The finer things were more often ideas; my desires were more about personal growth, opportunities, experiences, than they were about material things. Material things did come to me. Often, after I had enjoyed them, I gave them to others, to give them the joy which I had felt.
It was a common practice, when a guest in my home, showed a love or longing for something they saw. It could be a picture, a nick knack, sometimes even a piece of furniture. I would give it to them to have as their very own.
This action also helped me to feel more love for people, less so for material things.
Yep, it's okay to feel happiness from material things.
In a Christian context, the most often mis-quoted passage from The Bible is:
"Money is the root of all evil."

The actual wording is:

1 Timothy 6:10

"For the love of money is the root of all evil..."

As in, when a person loves money so much that they will deceive, steal, step on the backs of others, often crushing them, just to gain more money.

An attitude of charity, of generosity, of compassion is a greater treasure than all of the gold that used to be in the US treasury.
(The US treasury is nearly bankrupt, which speaks volumes)

The attitudes that were formed in my childhood began to manifest the dreams I'd had for the experiences I had craved. There were many of these experiences that were fulfilled. There are many more that I will experience.
I'm still young, just getting started!

When I look at works of art, most of it moves me. I mean ~
REALLY MOVES ME.
Often, the movement is an emotion, the positive trigger of a memory, it can also remind me of a person or a pet, whether current or present, that I love. Sometimes, it makes my heartbeat faster, even moves me to where I was, forward, to a better state of mind.

When I lived in Hawai'i, there was an artist who created such strikingly beautiful works of art, they were mesmerizing. Oil on canvas paintings of people in natural Hawai'ian settings. There were also landscapes of the ocean, beaches, familiar settings such as Diamond Head, Hana'uma Bay, Iolani Palace, the Ko'olau mountains in their verdant greenery.
Like so many works of art, the paintings were as expensive as they were beautiful, moving, prized by many.
The artist, Diana Hansen Young, was also reputed to be kind, warm, somewhat cheeky in personality.
As much as I was captivated by the paintings, the price of even the least expensive one was the equivalent of 7 months of my income.
Certain aspects of life such as food, shelter, fuel for the jalopy, car insurance, all take precedence over purchasing a work of art. Even the most beautiful, moving, art which is worth the price, was out of my reach.
Dreams are free
Desires are free
Happy memories are free

Keeping in my memory, the beauty of those images, I continued to want just one of those paintings for my very own. Life has taught me that even a small, fatherless boy can grow up to be a president or a great man or both.

What felt like many lifetimes later, I had a stroke of extreme prosperity. The lucrative sort that I had been working for, for 5 years. I never knew whether it would pay off or not. Still, I kept working at it. It seemed to be serendipitous as many events in my life have been.
People who know me well have told me that it seems to be part karma, part due to the correct decisions I have made.

I had gone to the gallery showings of Diana Hansen Young, I spoke with her every time. She was humble, courteous with a glow of happiness that felt so warm. The feeling stayed with me for weeks, after every visit with her. It was so heart touching.

When the chance to have one of these beautiful works of art came to me, I bantered for the best price. It took 2 months for the seller & I to come to a mutual agreement. The seller wanted the money as much as I wanted the painting. It felt like a delicious, hazy dream as I unpacked the box containing the painting. It was 5' x 3', as tall as I am. The packaging was so meticulous, was sent via Fed Ex.
Well worth the wait! The painting is an original, 16" x 20" oil on canvas, professionally framed, bare, without glass. It moves me in so many ways.
It's also a symbol of hope for me, that anything is achievable for those like me who wait, who persevere, who work for it.

The other work of art that I own, was a trade with someone I met when I was serving on AD USAF. Through the marvelous medium that is the internet, we got back in touch. He has developed his skill as an artist. His paintings are a testament to his skill, also to his intelligence & creativity.
He saw the photos of my finished needlework pieces which I pour my heart, into. He wanted to pay to have a certain pattern stitched for him. I stitch slow, savoring the process. Selling one of my stitched pieces would feel like selling my child. I told him that if he was willing to wait, I would love to have one of his original paintings. The deal was sealed, all online. Words, typed online. No in person meeting nor a phone conversation. It was a first for me.

Because I work a lot & needed certain materials to make the stitched piece have the beauty to make him happy, it took awhile to get it started. I'm very particular about getting things right.
I suppose I'm my own critic. When I do something, I do it right.
As I carefully packaged the needlework piece, I knew I had created a work of art that would please him. I had washed it twice, rinsed it twice, carefully pressed it between 2 clean white towels, then pressed it with a professional grade clothes iron.
My painter buddy had sent my painting several months before. I knew that if I took it out of its careful packaging, it might sap my motivation to finish his work of art.

As I removed the painting from its careful packaging, well protected by layers of padding, it took my breath away! All I had told him was that I wanted an oil on canvas painting of the moon.
He delivered so much more!
I felt the time, care, love & talent he used to create such beauty.

In the creativity, the sense of pride, of happiness, feeling the paint.

It's a 16" x 20" (I believe). It hangs next to my bed to gaze at, as I fall asleep. When I wake, I gaze at it to start my day. A painting is just oil, tint, canvas & wood.

When you know the artist, it becomes so much more.

Challenge Yourself

With all of the challenges I have faced in my short life, maybe more than other people, maybe fewer. Keeping a smile on my face, a positive attitude has been a constant.
Life is imperfect, we have to do the best we can do. It's important to hope that good times are on their way to find us wherever we are on this little blue marble in space.
Hold
On
Pain
Ends

Road trips I take, I take them on my own. Keeping a fully charged police grade taser on the seat next to me, helps. People fear for my safety because they have not seen me in action. If they did, they would know, I can definitely take care of myself.
On my solo road trips, there's a lot of time to think. Photography is far from one of my strong skills. So, I think a lot, as I drive through the flat stretches of highway in Wyoming. The winding mountain terrain of Colorado & Utah. Those winding mountain roads scare me so much, especially when I have a close call with a deer. I'm in their space, their home. It would make me feel so horrible if my car hit & killed one of those beautiful, graceful, Bambis.

On these long road trips, no radio stations. There's a whooooole lot of time to think. It's during these times that I practice my positive thinking, the most. Thinking in the positive, speaking out loud, in the positive. I repeat positive phrases out loud. Sometimes, I even sing. It's better to sing tenor. Ten or 12 miles from other people. 😅

People often remark at how positive I am, most of the time. I have my negative moments, occasionally. Then, I catch myself, interject some positive words.
I speak to myself, inside my private thoughts, as I would speak to someone who I dearly love. It's self-care, in a way. Self-love in its purest form. When you truly love yourself, you can accomplish so much more than if you were malcontent with your life. Malcontent with your own actions. A phrase that I love is in the meme below.

Just to be clear. I love men. I know & have known many great men, starting with my beloved Grandfather, Sherman L Kendall. He was such a great man; all family members who knew him, still revere him.
Romantically?
Most of my experiences with males, romantically speaking, in my life, up to 2012, have been horrible. In 2012, I had my fill. I moved to Texas from Colorado, made a decision to remain single & celibate. It has been one of the best decisions I have ever made.
I love men.
Also, I love elephants & giraffes, I simply don't want one in my backyard or to go on dates with them. LOL!

With all of that, said, are you ready to challenge yourself?

Get ready!

There are elements of negative speech that starts when a person is barely 6 months old. Often, even younger.

NO!
Don't!
Don't touch!
Stop that!
Don't do that!
Stop doing that!

These are some of the very first words & phrases parents say to their children. Parents who love their precious babies. The negative indoctrination starts at a very young age.
Admittedly, I did barely start that way, then, I caught it. I began to work on remembering to talk to my precious children in more positive terms.

If you are the parent of a small child or are expecting a baby or hope to be a parent eventually, there is more hope for you. Just playing.
Even if you're hoping to speak more positively just to yourself, for now, there are many practices you can adopt.

First, if you eliminate the use of can't, don't, not, no, won't, with all their various forms. This is a good start. If you practice, in your thinking, inside your mind where you are the only one who creates it & hears it. The positive speech will begin to be part of the words & phrases you say that others can hear.
For example, in place of:
"I don't like that."
You could say:
"I prefer this instead"
Just a simple change. In time, speaking in the positive will become the new normal for you.

Something I have noticed in many people, particularly people in their 20s & 30s, is a culture of complaining.
Complaining about how unfair life is, complaining about how other people act or someone who has treated them unfairly. Complaining about "rich people", high prices. Often, the practice also includes expressions of powerlessness over the political climate. Most of it is, I noticed, wanting others to understand them while they withhold effort to first, understand the others.
In my limited life experience, I have learned to seek to understand others before my desire to be understood. It seems to go smoother.
This also soothes feelings of malcontent for me, calms anxiety before it can take root.

There have been some very wise, compassionate, kind people in my life whom I am so humbled, so grateful to know. Grateful to them for patiently teaching me. The lessons they taught me have been very valuable as I learn & grow, personally. These people have been such great teachers, to me.
They were simple, everyday people, with a kind & compassionate approach to life, to their treatment of others.
An important lesson I learned early in life was that I can learn something from everyone. My teachers of life lessons weren't 100%, a group of 70+ people.
Nope.
People of all ages. Cradle & beyond. Children have such a fresh, new, beautiful view of life. I have learned some profound lessons from the viewpoint of a 2 year old.
"Chocolate messy, it's good. It make me happy even when it's messy".

Some lessons I have learned is that every lifestyle has its pros & cons. Even being financially wealthy has its challenges. There are often outcries of how "pretty people" have far fewer problems, of how unfair it is that more attractive people, lead charmed lives of such ease. While, I admit, people who are more physically attractive do have certain advantages, this phrase comes to mind:

What a person does with the life aspects they have can make such a big difference. Many public people & the events of their lives have proved that being very physically attractive or financially wealthy also have their trappings. It's simply an exterior, 1 aspect of a person.

The lives of Marilyn Monroe, Vivien Leigh, Elvis Presley, remind us that what you do with what is naturally a part of you at birth, makes a huge impact. It makes a huge impact on you, personally. That impact will have a ripple effect on the world around you.

Challenge yourself to think in the positive, feel the change it makes.

Names of Demons

Since the dawn of time as humans recall, there have been demons on the earth, in the proverbial heavenly realm. At times, even inhabiting living beings of differing sorts.

Some of the degenerate products from Hollywood & other media sources have distorted, desensitized, essentially made people less aware of the demons on the earth in this modern world we live in. In the distant past, strong drink with high ABV was most commonly referred to as "spirits".
Does it make you wonder?
Does it make you say, hmmm?
Just a little?
When a person is imbibing, it often changes their personality. Some for the better, some for the others. Inhibitions are usually minimized.

Sober thoughts that were safely held in check, come spilling out!

Maybe I was a bit naive, possibly, still am. I had never been drunk dialed until long after a deeply painful divorce. Possibly because nearly everyone I knew didn't drink alcohol. The call was not from the ex huzz. If it had been, I wouldn't have picked up.
As silly as this may sound, I was fascinated, fixated, listening to the drunk who I barely knew, spill his innermost thoughts he had when he was sober. I listened, laughed about it, from around 12 midnight to 4 am! After the call ended, I lay there in the softness of my bed, wondering what had gotten into him.
It must have been the spirits! 😎

The names of demons are tossed around in todays world, so casually, many people don't realize the power the names have. Many people also believe that demons are a thing of the past, figments of imagination. It's also said that until one experiences it first hand, for themselves, being one of a sound, healthy mental/emotional state, many will chalk it up to the person being "crazy", a nut case, even buckets of crazy.
Until.
The experience happens firsthand.
Then, a believer in the spirit world is born.

Having lived with this throughout my entire life, it was a surprise to me that most people have never experienced interactions with angels, demons, divine intervention. The spiritual life chose me.

Words have power. More power than many people realize. Several times I heard people in conversation stating that another person is hopeless or evil or crazy or worthless.
The other person will pipe up, saying,
"Don't speak that over him/her."
Without a full realization of the power of these words, the negativity was rejected.

Before going forward, I want to say, I have made my own mistakes, so far from perfect, I need a new phrase for far from perfect!

This has been a long-held belief, a truth, if you will as a testament to the power of words.
Now, for the "meat" of the idea.
The names of demons that many will claim, don't exist, have power over the people of the world whether they are believed in or not.
Just speaking these names aloud can feel heavy, can feel dark & negative. Many people often hesitate to say them aloud. As if the demons will be brought to life, as indeed they might be.

Suicide
Hate
Jealousy
Betrayal
Disease
Manipulation
Desperation
Rape
Destruction
Damnation

In addition to this?

It's very common for men to say that an ex or current one in his life is "crazy".
When a guy says his ex or current squeeze is "crazy" what he is REALLY revealing is that he acted like a jerk. He could possibly have cheated on her or over spent the amount of money they had agreed upon, earlier or any number of assorted hurtful actions.
In place of accepting responsibility for his actions he will state that the woman is "a psycho" or "crazy" or that he doesn't know what "her problem" is.
He knows.
He chooses the lower road, blaming someone for their reaction to his cruel treatment or being irresponsible with resources.

The Bible warns people of the damaging effects of gluttony. It's one of the sins that the Bible warn us of that is the most common in the world, now.
Eating or overeating of foods simply because of a craving or because it tastes good. Really, any other reason besides hunger.
The world wide obesity epidemic is the result of the most often committed sin of eating for any other reason than feeling hunger. Genuine, hollow feeling in the belly hunger, eating because you must. Not because you want to, but, out of necessity for health. Choosing foods that are real, actual foods for their nutritional value.

You probably have the gist of it.
When these words are tossed around casually, it may diminish their impact when spoken aloud, the potential power remains. The effects of the words will remain long after they are spoken out loud. The venom is out, the only antidote is to speak or say or even think them less.
There's the hope.

When you make a conscious effort to think to yourself in positive terms, rephrasing the negative into the positive before speaking.
The start of all this is inside your head where your thoughts can make the biggest difference in your own personal life.

Please, choose your words carefully around children or any very vulnerable person. It can make such a positive difference.

It Takes Me Back

The taste with soft grained texture of guava on my tongue.

mmmmmmmmmmmm

It takes me back to the first time I tasted it, soon after I arrived in Hawai'i. The 15th SPS was expecting a female Captain to arrive. Because I was wearing civilian clothes, maybe because I had strong self-confidence, flew into the MAC terminal instead of HNL, they assumed I was her. The person who was supposed to be her sponsor, met me at the terminal with a flower lei & a small basket with some island goodies. I was exhausted, hungry, a bit confused. I opened one of the cans of Hawaiian Sun juice, it was a flavor I loved right from the first sip!
Pass-O-Guava
Passion fruit juice & guava fruit juice.
I love these 2 separate or together.
I was dropped off at VOQ. Visiting Officers Quarters. There were different cans of the other yummy flavors! As I went through the basket, sampling a little of each, it was clear which one was already my flavorite. Aloha nui loa!

A wonderful aspect of modern times is that anything can be bought for a price, even with free shipping. Hello Amazon Prime!
I work very very long days. I'm worth it!
2 cases of Hawaiian Sun juices? Yes, please!
It's been a rough week, rewarding myself by cracking a cold one opened. Cold, lovely, delicious Pass-O-Guava nectar! A compatible combo of passion fruit blended with guava.

Although I KNOW I'm far from Hawai'i, there is just something about this flavor that takes me there. I'm catching up on Star Trek: Picard episodes, tonight, geeking out like the sapiosexual that I am. It's cool to be intelligent, it's cool to be a nerd.
New thinking
Entertaining
Really sexy
Dichotomy

If you have ever gone somewhere new, different from anywhere you had ever been. You may have listened to the local music, sampled some of the local cuisine. Enjoyed it so much that you bought some of each to take back home with you when you left.
Yeah
It's like that!
Whenever I have gone back to the islands, I have brought some of it back with me. Lilikoi jelly from the Stadium Swap Meet. Little shortbread cookies from The Honolulu Cookie Company on my last trip.

The flavors are all, so intense, they are unique, others may be close.
Just far enough off the mark to make my mouth miss the real thing.

Until the next time when I can go back without threats from the mask holes, spoiling my fun.
Order online, it's da real da kine.
Broke da mout
Liddat
Brah

H.D.K.

When times were easy then they got tough
He didn't know if he had quite enough
He kept on pushing til he made it through
Nights were so long the loneliness hurt
The random girl made him feel like dirt
He didn't know of anything else he could do
Thinking that he finally made it in his mind
Still the emptiness was all that he could find
Until one day he met someone special so new
Was she just like all the other ones from before?
In his bed one day then the next out the door
Maybe she would be his own dream come true
Fear filled his heart then it filled his mind
Was she like the others he had left behind?
This girl was so unique he didn't know what to do
She was happy she was calm with a sweet smile
Her kindness alone was enough to beguile
He felt himself falling as his love for her grew
Knowing he wanted her with him for the rest of his life
Knowing he wanted only to ask her to be his wife
The terrible truth he hid was one that only he knew
How could he tell her that he had been living a lie
This sweet heart he knew he had to pass on by
It hurt to admit to himself what he knew he had to do
She was the one he had searched for though it took too long
To belong to someone else when the right one comes along
His lot in life was the wildcard in life which he drew
His marriage came to an abrupt ending hence
He didn't blame the mom to his kids in her defense
She still loved him in her heart he still loved her too
Now the long nights returned to what they were before
The tossing the turning with so much pacing the floor
Cycling of girls had sadly returned in his life too
Could he find another like the sweet girl he had known?
Could she forgive him his lies when his cover was blown?
It would be even tougher with another someone new
When he went to find her he couldn't believe his eyes
The sweet girl who still loved him to his great surprise
As his eyes filled with tears in an instant his heart grew
Knowing the mum to his kids had found her own way
With one who loved her truly on her second wedding day
It eased his mind of the guilt that he had caused to brew
The sweet girl gave him a chance to right his prior wrong
Oh the joy in being free to love the second time it comes along
This is the story of many that takes a lifetime to work through

Watch it Grow

If anyone wants to place a bet that I'm a die hard, passionate needleworker. It's a safe bet.

Winner - Winner! Chocolate fudge cake for dinner!

At times I have been spoken of as never finishing what I start - regarding my needlework + art & craft projects.
Au contraire mon Capitan!
(Spoken in the sassy voice of Q)

There are a myriad of reasons. The main  reason is this. I'm somewhat prone to depression. Most people who are highly creative are. It seems to me to be the nature of the beast. A very persistent, unkind beast.

Hang with me peeps while I tie it together for youse.

Some creative types, specifically needleworkers, get a sort of euphorial high when starting a new design. It's so new, different, exciting, captivating.
To me?
It feels the same way that falling in love feels. Heightened bliss.

Sometime between almost halfway through the project, the euphoria begins to wear off. The needlework designers crank the designs out faster than most stitchers can busy their fingers to turn that blank fabric into a glorious display of beauty, showcasing their skill.
Many designers, I have found, do the designing then they have professional stitchers work from the pattern, noting errors or making improvements as they stitch.
After the stitching, then there is the added touches of beads, charms, sparkling fibers. Some people gently hand wash the fabric before doing the beading, charms, fibers, some do it after. Some people even wash it before and after. Then, there is the pressing & stretching or "blocking"
Once that is done, it is professionally framed by a very experienced crafts person who specializes in custom stretching & finishing of needlework.
The finished masterpiece is photographed then, it's all put together in the pattern format as in a single sheet or booklet or leaflet. Sometimes it's put in protective plastic with a "header" bearing the designers logo, printed on heavy paper. The paper is at the top, stapled to close the top of the protective plastic.

Have you ever fallen in love?
My aunt says that people don't fall in love, they fall in horse crap, not knowing what they have fallen into.
Some people go through their lives going from romantic relationship to the next, then, the next. Those endorphins are so powerful!
This makes my endorphin gathering by starting another project to get that delicious, happy, blissful feeling sound much more safe!

*******************************************************************************
Why is it that once begun
Creative joys diminish
Starting again is more fun
Than it ever is to finish

*******************************************************************************

Another reason or maybe it's an excuse (pick one!) is that a lot of stitching is seasonal. Christmas ornaments, Christmas decor. Easter decor, patterns for St Patrick's Day, beautiful Autumn scenes. Then there's also gifts for loved ones birthdays, wedding gifts, new baby gifts. Sooooooo much more!
If the seasonal item (Christmas is a major snag) isn't finished once the holiday is over, it tends to be put to the side in favor of spring & summer stitching.
It might be picked up once the holiday season starts up the following year or it might not be picked up for 2 years.... or ....ever.
Shout out to my stitcher buddies, nodding their heads, smiling, with a sheepish grin. No hanging your head in shame you floss licker!

In 2021, I remedied 2 very bad habits I knew were not good for me. Shhh.
I'm not going to tell you what they were.
These are not New Years Resloutions. They are simply clearing out negative habits that were bringing me down.
For 2022, I resolved to finish projects I had started awhile back. A beautiful band sampler that I had barely started, no, I won't tell you how long ago! With the spirit of Christmas in the air, I decided that it was time to continue stitching until it was completely finished.
I did it!
Another habit I have had to really work on was photos.
I hate to have my picture taken even more than I hate taking pictures. It's part of my charm.
A dear friend who often asks me to send her a picture of what I'm doing, what my craft projects look like, has given me that sweet & gentle nudge to get over it, start taking more pictures. So, I have.
Sticking with this Christmas sampler to completion, you get to watch it grow! Although I make changes from the pattern to suit my own personal taste, peeps ~ here it is!

My sincere apologies, my stitching is much better than my photography.

I present to you; Christmas Ribbons designed by Nan Caldera, one of my favorite design companies ~ Just Nan.

I love the stitched ribbon at the bottom!
Here it is, all finished. It's soaking in a cool water rinse after being gently hand washed in a mild soap (Suave shampoo!) Next, I will press it right side down, then, send it to my professional framer. I attached a silver 2022 charm as my own personal touch.
Some stitchers go fast, I like to savor it, enjoy it, revel in the feeling of the soft silks & cottons on a gold needle as they glide through the linen. As I stitch, I'm feeling the endorphins in a sweet rhythm I love. This beautiful needlework represents 70 hours of my life. My career is one that I had dreamed of, hoped for, I truly love it! When it actually found me. My language skills saved my life. I was barely making it, looked like I was gliding along. Underneath, I was paddling at full speed, living on 1 egg a day for a long time. The ex huzz screwed me royally in the divorce. While he had the career I had helped him build, I had next to nothing to live on. It was only my needlework that gave me happiness, calmed me, comforted me.

In the rhythm of the needle there is music for the soul. ~ Nan Caldera
